Irina Mirkina is a visionary AI strategist and a leading authority on responsible AI. With a successful career spanning academia, public, and private sectors, she is currently the Chief AI Scientist at Fugro, a global leader in geo-data solutions, and guides efforts to harness AI for building a safe and livable world.

Before joining Fugro, Dr. Mirkina served as the AI Lead for the Office of Innovation at UNICEF, where she led the development and use of AI systems that saved children’s lives and promoted their rights. With an extensive background in AI ethics and international standards for AI governance, she has been instrumental in shaping policies and practices to ensure the ethical deployment of AI technologies. Dr. Mirkina has also served as a co-chair of the Community of Practice on AI for the Digital Public Goods Alliance, a co-organizer of the UN Generative AI Practice Group, a member of the UN Intra-Agency Working Group on AI, and an expert for the European Commission Research Executive Agency. Her work on AI for social good has earned her recognition on the lists of 100 Brilliant Women in AI Ethics™, Inspired Minds Top 65 Most Influential Women, and Hyperight Nordic 100 in Data, Analytics, and AI.a
